GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team upped its record to 2-0 on the season by upending Greenville College 123-111 at the CCIW/SLIAC Challenge.
Elmhurst, ranked eighth in the D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, built a 64-49 halftime lead and then held off a late charge for the 12-point victory.
Kyle Wuest and
Bryant Ackerman combined to score 49 points to lead the Bluejays in the victory. Wuest scored a team-high 26 points, shooting 9-of-13 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the foul line. Ackeman totaled 23 points while also shooting 9-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from downtown. Ackerman added six rebounds in the win.Â
Wil Nixon added a doubled-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Jalen Loving came off the bench to finish with 13 points and five rebounds.
Erik Crittenden battled foul trouble but still contributed eight points for the Bluejays.
Kenny Payonk came off the bench to chip in with eight points and five boards.
Elmhurst shot 50.6 percent (44-of-87) from the floor, including 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from downtown. The Bluejays dominated in the paint, outrebounding Greenville 63-37 and outscoring the Panthers 68-34 in the lane.Â
Running "The System" on offense, Greenville managed to shoot just 36.7 percent from the floor (33-of-90). The Panthers lifted 40 three-pointers, but hit just 14 (35.0 percent). Greenville's full court press resulted in 32 Elmhurst turnovers and 22 steals for Greenville.
Tim Daniel paced Greenville in the loss with a game-high 28 points, hitting 8-of-14 from the floor, including 7-of-13 from downtown. Kenny Greene added 15 points while Andre Brown chipped in with 14.Â
Elmhurst takes on Westminster (Mo.) tomorrow, November 21.Â
