Men's Hoops Team Rolls Past Westminster 81-52

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The eighth-ranked Elmhurst men's basketball team remained undefeated on the season with an 81-58 win over Westminster College at the CCIW/SLIAC Challenge.

Elmhurst (3-0) scored the game's opening basket, nine seconds into the contest, and never looked back. The Bluejays led by as many as 22 points in the opening half and carried a 41-23 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Bluejays continued to pull away in the second, building a 30-point cushion before cruising to the 23-point victory.

Elmhurst shot an even 50.0 percent from the floor, hitting 33-of-66 shots. The Bluejays shot 8-of-21 from downtown (38.1 percent) and 7-of-12 from the foul line (58.3 percent). Elmhurst outscored Westminster 38-28 in the paint and finished with a 48-39 edge on the glass.

Kyle Wuest led Elmhurst in the win with 18 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 4-of-6 from downtown. Erik Crittenden totaled a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kenny Payonk came off the bench to total 10 points and five boards while Will Nixon chipped in with eight points and five rebounds. Brandon Schwebke added seven points and six rebounds. Peyton Wyatt scored six while Pat Coleman finished with four points and a game-high five assists.

Westminster shot just 30.2 percent (19-of-63) from the floor, including 21.7 percent (5-of-23) from downtown.

Tanner Gentges and Romo Tabb scored 11 points apiece to pace Westminster in the loss. 

Elmhurst plays its home-opener on Wednesday, November 25, by hosting Benedictine University.
