ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst volleyball team, ranked 16th in the latest AVCA Division III poll, improved to 16-6 overall and 2-0 in the CCIW with a three-set sweep over North Park University.
Elmhurst breezed to its second consecutive conference victory by a score of 25-14, 25-12, 25-14.
Leading by just a point at 10-9 in the opening set, the Bluejays ripped off six straight points behind
Hannah Nimrick's serve to take a commanding 16-9 lead before pulling away for the 25-14 victory.
The Bluejays stepped on the gas right from the start of the second set, scoring the first five points and building a quick 10-point cushion at 17-7. An attack error on North Park (7-10, 0-2 CCIW) gave the Bluejays the second set at 25-12.
Elmhurst continued its strong start in the third set, grabbing a quick 8-3 lead and forcing North Park to burn a timeout. The Bluejays continued to pull away, building a 10-point cushion at 22-12 before putting the match away at 25-14 on a kill from
Hannah Davis.
Elmhurst finished the contest hitting .245 with 43 kills and 20 errors in 94 swings.
Mary Lawrence led a balanced attack for the Bluejays, finishing with a match-high nine kills.
Alli Rogers added seven kills while
Hannah Nimrick totaled six kills to go with 22 assists, 14 digs and two blocks.
Mel Lundin and Davis finished with five kills apiece in the win.
Amy Schryver totaled a match-high 15 digs in the victory.
North Park struggled with its offense, finishing with just six kills to go with 11 errors in 70 attempts. The Vikings hit -.071 for the contest. Lauren Wiltsie totaled a team-leading three kills in the loss while Mariah Rosito added eight digs.
Elmhurst continues CCIW play on Friday, October 9, by traveling to Augustana College.
