Larsen Sends the Bluejays to the CCIW Tournament

KENOSHA, Wis.Austin Larsen blasted a 30-yard goal 59 seconds into the second overtime to send the Elmhurst men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Carthage.

With the win, the Bluejays (8-8-2, 4-2-1 CCIW) earn the No. 2 seed in the CCIW Tournament and will host a rematch with the Red Men (10-6-2, 4-2-1) at Langhorst Field this Wednesday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m.

Carthage found the board first just 15 seconds into the contest. Giles Phillips put the ball past Nick King off an assist from Ivan Chavez.

After trailing for over 73 minutes, Robert Castillo scored his second goal in as many games to equalize. Brandon Chuhy sent a long cross and Castillo slid to redirect a shot inside the far post.

Needing a goal in extra time to extend their season, Austin Larsen became the hero. After a Jeff Kading throw-in was cleared, the ball fell to Larsen. The freshman blasted a 30-yard shot that redirected off the crossbar into the back of the net.

Carthage out shot Elmhurst 19-14, including 10-3 in shots on goal. Nick King kept Elmhurst in the game by recording eight saves, while his opposition, Niko Mavrogiannis, made one stop.
