COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Elmhurst volleyball team closed out play at the Colorado College Tournament with a 2-1 record after falling to the ninth-ranked tournament host in three sets.
Colorado (18-1) scored a 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 win over Elmhurst. The Bluejays fell to 15-6 on the season
The Bluejays battled right with Colorado for much of the opening set. The two squads traded points for the majority of the set with Elmhurst grabbing a 19-18 lead after a kill from
Alli Rogers. Colorado responded by winning the next seven points to put away the set. The run was keyed by three aces from Reagan Folaron.
Colorado raced out to a quick 8-2 lead in the second set and never looked back. The Bluejays pulled to within two points at 10-8, but Colorado quick extended its lead back to six points before finishing off the set at 25-19.
Elmhurst started strong in the third set, building a three-point lead at 10-7. The Bluejays were in front 20-17, but a 4-1 run from Colorado evened the score at 21-all. Colorado used a 3-1 run to go in front 24-22. The Bluejays fought off one match point before falling 25-23.
Elmhurst hit .155 for the match with 35 kills and 19 errors in 103 attempts. Rogers led the Bluejays' attack in the loss with eight kills.
Hannah Nimrick added seven kills and 24 assists while
Hannah Davis chipped in with six kills and a team-leading five blocks.
Amy Schryver registered a match-high 18 digs in the loss.
Colorado finished the contest with a .252 attack percentage with 39 kills and 13 errors in 103 attacks. Abbe Holtze tallied a team-leading 12 kills while Folaron added nine kills and 10 digs.
Elmhurst, ranked 15th in the latest AVCA Division III poll, hosts North Park University on Wednesday, October 7.
