ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's soccer team kept its CCIW Tournament hopes alive by scoring twice late in the second half to force a 2-2 draw with North Park.
Wednesday's results set up three teams, North Central (5-12-0, 4-2 CCIW), Elmhurst (7-8-2, 3-2-1 CCIW), and North Park
(12-3-2, 3-1-2 CCIW) battling for two spots in the CCIW Tourmnament. Elmhurst must win on Saturday against Carthage to keep their CCIW Tournament hopes alive.
North Park found the net in the opening minutes of the contest. Michal Walaszek dribbled around a couple of defenders and knocked a low, 25-yard shot past
Nick King.
The Vikings took a 2-0 lead on Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh's penalty kick goal in the 66th minute.
Elmhurst sent the game to overtime with a pair of late goals. Just two minutes after North Park's second goal,
Robert Castillo buried a header off a beautiful ball from
Andrew Hicks. Then,
Jeff Kading knotted the score at two by scoring on a 30-yard shot that bounced inside the far post.
The Bluejays held off a late North Park rally in the second overtime. North Park took six shots and had one that King just tipped over the crossbar in the final seconds.
North Park out shot Elmhust 18-15 in the contest. King made six save in goal for Elmhurst, while Christopher Tomuta stopped five Elmhurst chances.
Elmhurst faces Carthage in Kenosha this Saturday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m.
