Elmhurst Blanks Dominican For Sixth Win

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst volleyball team picked up its sixth win of the 2014 season with a 25-10, 25-19, 25-13 sweep off Dominican University.

Elmhurst broke a 5-5 tie in the opening set with a 14-3 run to open up a commanding 19-8 lead. The Bluejays cruised to the first set with eight kills while Dominican (3-2) aided the cause with 12 hitting errors.

The second set was tightly contested with the score even at 14-apiece, but the Bluejays used a 7-2 run to grab a 21-16 advantage before closing out the set on a kill by Melissa Nava.

Elmhurst jumped out early in the third set, racing out to a 9-2 lead and cruising to the three-set sweep of the Stars.,\

Elmhurst hit .253 for the match with 35 kills and 14 errors in 83 attempts. Sam Szarmach led the charge with 10 kills, 12 digs and one block. Jackie Pavilonis added nine kills and three blocks while Nava added five kills and three blocks. Hannah Nimrick added 21 assists and three blocks for the Bluejays.

Dominican hit just -0.86 for the match with 20 kills and 28 errors in 93 attempts. Caitlen Foote led the Stars in the loss with six kills and six digs. Christina Wilson totaled 15 assists and 13 digs for the Stars.

Elmhurst, ranked 15th in the latest AVCA Division III poll, will face 21st-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at 7:00 p.m.
