Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst volleyball team ran its winning streak to nine with a 25-17, 15-25, 25-14, 25-21 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in the first round of the Elmhurst Invitational.

Sam SzarmachElmhurst (12-1), broke an 8-8 tie in the opening set with a 6-1 run to open up a 14-9 advantage. Platteville pulled to within four points at 16-12, but came no closer as the Bluejays put the opening set away.
Platteville came out strong in the second set, racing out to an 13-5 lead and cruising to the 25-15 victory. The Bluejays pulled out in front in the third set, opening up a 9-3 advantage before pulling away for the 25-14 victory.
The fourth set was a battle as the score was even at 13-13, but Elmhurst won five of the next six points to build an 18-14 advantage. Platteville closed to within two points at 23-21, but kills from
Jackie Pavilonis and
Alli Rogers put the match away for the Bluejays.
Elmhurst hit .208 for the match with 53 kills and 26 errors in 130 attempts.
Sam Szarmach powered the attack with 20 kills and eight digs.
Melissa Nava and Rogers added eight kills apiece while Nava finished with a team-leading six blocks.
Hannah Nimrick added seven kills and 32 assists while
Jackie Pavilonis finished with seven kills.
Peggy Clemens totaled 16 digs and
Amy Schryver added 14 in the victory.
Jennifer Schmidt and Lidia Frias finished with six kills apiece to lead Platteville in the loss.
Elmhurst, ranked 13th in the latest AVCA Division III poll, takes on second-ranked Emory University at 8:00 p.m.Â
