Bluejays Crush Fontbonne 82-53

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Elmhurst men's basketball team remained unbeaten on the season by blowing out Fontbonne University 82-53 on the road.
 
Elmhurst (4-0) scored the opening bucket and never looked back as the Bluejays never trailed in the contest en route to the 29-point victory.

Fontbonne (0-3) closed to within a point at 9-8 five minutes into the opening half, but the Bluejays pushed its lead to five after back-to-back buckets from Jaylen Loving and Mitch McLaughlin. The Griffins pulled to within a point at 20-19, but Elmhurst responded with an 11-2 run to open up a 10-point cushion with 5:30 left in the half. Leading by nine with three minutes to play, Elmhurst closed the half on 10-1 run to open up an 18-point lead (44-26) at the half.
 
Elmhurst continued to pull away in the second half, building a 34-point cushion before pulling away for the 29-point victory.
 
Elmhurst shot 43.8 percent (28-of-64) from the floor and 69.7 percent (23-of-33) from the foul line. The Bluejays forced Fontbonne into 25 turnovers and scored 23 points off the Griffins' mistakes. Elmhurst was also solid on the glass, outrebounding Fontbonne 41-30.
 
Thirteen different Bluejays put points on the scoreboard in the victory. Loving came off the bench to pace the Bluejays with 14 points. Will Nixon added 11 points for Peyton Wyatt scored nine.

Kyle Wuest, Erik Crittenden and Kenny Payonk totaled eight points apiece for the Bluejays. Crittenden pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds in the victory while Pat Coleman tallied four points and four assists.
 
Fontbonne shot 40.5 percent (17-of-42) from the floor in the loss. Evan Johnson led the Griffins with 11 points while Jack Lake came off the bench to total 10 points and eight rebounds.
 
Elmhurst travels to Olivet College on December 1.
