GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Elmhurst volleyball team picked up its 18th win of the season by sweeping the University of Texas-Dallas in three sets at the Southwestern University Tournament.
Elmhurst (18-2), ranked 10th in the latest AVCA Division III poll, toppled Texas-Dallas (11-5) 25-18, 25-16, 25-16.Â
With the score even at nine in the opening set, the Bluejays used a 6-1 run behind the serves of
Jackie Pavilonis and
Kerry Swain to take a 15-10 lead. Elmhurst pushed its lead up to eight points at 21-13 before Texas-Dallas closed to within four at 22-18. An error on Texas-Dallas followed by back-to-back aces from Pavilonis handed the Bluejays the opening set 25-18.

Melissa NavaElmhurst turned a 10-9 lead in the second set into a six-point cushion at 16-10 after a 6-1 run. Texas-Dallas never came closer than five points for the rest of the set as the Bluejays cruised to the 25-16 win.Â
The third set was nearly identical to the second as Elmhurst led 12-11 before winning eight of the next 10 points to build a commanding 20-13. The Bluejays wrapped up the third set and the match at 25-16.
Elmhurst hit .283 as a team with 45 kills and 15 errors in 106 attacks. Texas Dallas struggled with its serve receive as the Bluejays registered 10 aces on the day.
Nava totaled 14 kills while hitting a match-high .650 in the win. Pavilonis added 11 kiils and hit .450 while also totaling four aces and seven digs.
Sam Szarmach added nine kills and eight digs while
Hannah Nimrick tallied five kills, 22 assists and 10 digs.
Amy Schryver totaled four aces and seven digs while Swain led the team in digs with 10.Â
Texas-Dallas was led led by Meredith Crawford's eight-kill, 13 dig performance. Michelle Toro added seven kills in the loss.
Elmhurst continues tournament play by facing Texas Lutheran University at 12:00 p.m.Â
