WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team opened CCIW play with a 1-0 road loss at 10th-ranked Wheaton College.
Wheaton's Marshall Hollingsworth scored the game's only goal in the 15th minute of action and the Thunder made it stand up for the duration of the contest.
Hollingsworth collected a short corner kick and carried the ball from the near sideline to the middle of the box and scored his sixth goal of the season.
Wheaton (11-2-0, 1-0 CCIW), ranked 10th in the latest NSCAA Division III poll, outshot Elmhurst 19-1 in the opening half and finished the game with a 28-4 advantage in shots.Â
Elmhurst (6-3-2, 0-1 CCIW) had three shots in the second half, including a pair of shots on net in the final 1:10.
Christian Mullin's shot was saved by Wheaton's Paprocki with 1:10 left to play. Poprocki grabbed
Mike Emig's shot in the final seconds of the contest to preserve the shutout.
John Reglin kept the Bluejays in the contest, allowing only one goal while recording 12 saves.Â
Elmhurst hosts Augustana College next Saturday, October 11, at 1:00 p.m.
