Box Score 2 LA VERNE, Calif - The Elmhurst volleyball team moved to 7-1 on the season after splitting a pair of matches at the University of La Verne Tournament.
Elmhurst, ranked fourth in the latest AVCA Division III poll, opened the day with a 25-21, 25-20, 25-13 victory over Whtiman. Elmhurst suffered its first loss of the season in a 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 loss to UC Santa Cruz.
ELMHURST 3, WHITMAN 0 - Elmhurst won their seventh straight match of the season with a three-set sweep of Whitman.
Megan Reynolds paced the Bluejays with 11 kills and six blocks.
Sam Szarmach added 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks while
Kaitlyn Wilks chipped in with nine kills.
Marci Novak pounded down six kills in Elmhurst's win while
Hannah Lessen led the squad in digs with 14.
Hannah Nimrick led the Bluejays with 15 assists while
Lauren Lorenz added 14.
UC-SANTA CRUZ 3, ELMHURST 0 - The Bluejays suffered their first loss of the season in a three-set defeat to UC-Santa Cruz.
Elmhurst struggled from the start, never leading while dropping both of the opening two sets. UC-Santa Cruz quickly jumped out in front in the third set, building a 12-8 lead before the Bluejays surged back. Elmhurst evened the score at 16-16 before building a 20-18 advantage, but the Bluejays' couldn't hold the lead as the Banana Slugs outscored Elmhurst 7-2 over the final nine points to put the match away.
