Bluejays Stun Sixth-Ranked Dominican

Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. - A pair of goals in less than seven minutes helped lift the Elmhurst men's soccer team to a 2-1 upset win over sixth-ranked Dominican University.

Mike Emig
Mikey Emig and Michael Delong scored just 6:13 apart in the opening half to account for all of Elmhurst's offense. Emig broke a scoreless tie in the 19th minute when he took a feed from Delong and slipped the ball through the legs of Dominican keeper Gabriel Gongora. Less than seven minutes later, Delong gave Elmhurst a 2-0 cushion. Delong beat his defender along the endline and went to the net to score his team-leading third goal of the season.

Dominican (2-1) cut the lead in half just 4:45 later as Robbie Baird gained control of a failed clearing attempt and connected on a 20-yard strike.

Elmhurst (3-1) repeatedly turned away Dominican in the second half as the Stars outshot the Bluejays 13-3 over the game's final 45 minutes. Bluejay keeper John Reglin recorded nine saves in net, including six in the second half to preserve the victory.

Gongora finished with three saves in goal for Dominican.

The win was the Bluejays first victory over Dominican in four meetings.

Elmhurst plays a pair of games at Trine University on September 13-14.
