ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team dropped its season-opening contest 2-1 in double overtime to 22nd-ranked Carleton College.

Carleton's Peter Passalino scored the game-winning goal with just 4:45 left in the second overtime to give the Knights the win. Passalino took a pass from Riley Phelps on a two-on-one breakaway and tucked the ball into the corner of the net to lift Carleton to the win.

Elmhurst started strong nearly getting on the scoreboard in the 24th minute. Eric Daughtry collected a deflected free kick and fired a shot ticketed for the back of the net, but Carleton keeper James Neher made a diving save to keep the game scoreless.

Elmhurst broke the scoreless tie late in the opening half. The Bluejays played a short corner kick to Andrew Witzofsky. Witzofsky found Austin Haas open at the top of the box, and Haas blasted home his first goal of the season to put the Bluejays on the scoreboard.

A hand ball against the Bluejays led to Carleton's game-tying goal in the second half. Will Corcoran's shot off of a quick restart on the ensuing free kick caught the Bluejays off guard and evened the match at one.

Neher made a pair of plays in the closing minutes of regulation to send the game to overtime. He made a sliding save on a shot by WItzofsky in the 79th minute and then charged out of the net to break up an Elmhurst odd-man rush. He finished with two saves in net for the Knights while Reglin recorded three saves for Elmhurst.
