Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst volleyball team, ranked sixth in the latest AVCA Division III poll, remained unbeaten in CCIW play by defeating Augustana College 26-24, 25-17, 25-17.

Elmhurst (21-2, 3-0 CCIW) struggled in the opening set, falling behind by as many as five points, before rattling off three straight point to take a 20-19 lead. Augustana (11-8, 1-1 CCIW) answered back with a 5-3 run to take a 24-23 lead. Elmhurst fought off a set point for the Vikings and then scored the next two points to take the first set 28-26.

The second set started similar to the first as Augustana opened up a 9-4 lead, before Elmhurst came roaring back. The Bluejays quickly raced past the Vikings and cruised to the second set 25-17. Elmhurst jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the third set and pulled away for the 25-17 victory to put the match away.

Marci Novak led the way for Elmhurst with 10 kills and 11 digs. Kaitlyn Wilks added seven kills and two blocks while Megan Reynolds finished with six kills and two blocks. Sam Szarmach added five kills for the Bluejays. Hannah Nimrick totaled 21 assists and four kills for the Bluejays. Hannah Lessen finished with a team0leading 15 digs while Dana Loncar added 10 for the Bluejays.

Dory Dudley, Martha Murray and Hailee Brayton finished with four kills apiece for the Vikings.

Elmhurst travels to the Midwest Volleyball Challenge in Michigan over the weekend. The Bluejays will face top-ranked Calvin College and second-ranked Hope College at the  tournament.
