Box Score NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team slipped to 1-2 on the season following a 2-1 overtime loss at Carleton College.
After a scoreless opening half, the Bluejays jumped on the scoreboard first.
Christian Mullin headed a
Brett Harper free kick off of a Carleton defender and into the net to give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute.
Carleton scored the equalizer 10 minutes later. Neil Bartholomay pounced on a loose ball at the top of the box and bounced his shot off the left goal post and into the net to even the score.
The game remained tied for the rest of regulation and headed to overtime. With less than a minute remaining in the extra period, Derek Funk scored off of a Branden McGarrity cross out in front of the net to give Carleton the win.
Carleton outshot Elmhurst 18-6 in the contest, including a 4-0 edge in overtime. The Bluejays held a slight 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
John Reglin registered seven saves in goal for the Bluejays while taking the loss. James Neher stopped three shots in net to earn the win for Carleton.
Elmhurst travels to St. Olaf College on Sunday, September 9.
