Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team slipped to 1-1 on the season after dropping its home-opener 1-0 to the University of Chicago.
Elmhurst and Chicago (1-0-1) played a scoreless first half, with the Maroons' defense keeping Elmhurst off the scoreboard. After an Elmhurst header off a corner kick was saved by Chicago keeper Brett Wiesen,
Reggie Thedford's rebound shot was steered away by a Chicago defender, keeping the Bluejays scoreless.
Elmhurst held a slim 6-4 shots advantage in the opening half.
Chicago scored the game's only goal in the 54th minute when Connor Goodwin sent a low line drive in the corner of the net from 35 yards out.
The Maroons tightened up on defense and held Elmhurst to without a shot for over 20 minutes in the second half. The Bluejays made a late rush at the end of the half, but the Maroons turned away Elmhurst's scoring chances to preserve the win.
The Bluejays finished the contest with a 9-8 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
John Reglin recorded three saves in goal while taking the loss for the Bluejays. Wiesen earned the shutout for the Maroons while stopping three shots.
Elmhurst heads to Carleton College on September 7.
