Box Score WHITEWATER, Wis. - Trailing 2-1 after three sets to 15th-ranked Wartburg College, the Elmhurst volleyball team rallied for a five-set victory at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tournament.
Elmhurst, ranked 11th in the latest AVCA poll, snapped Wartburg's 15-match winning streak with a 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11 victory. The Bluejays upped their record to 12-4 on the season with the victory.
Four Bluejays reached double-figures in kills. Sophomore
Sam Szarmach powered the Bluejays in the win, pounding down a team-leading 19 kills to go along with three blocks and four aces. Antonéya Veasy Smith registered 16 kills and four aces for the Bluejays while
Megan Reynolds totaled 15 kills and a team-leading four blocks.
Kaitlyn Wilks added 10 kills for the Bluejays.
Perrie Morgan totaled a team-leading 20 digs while
Marci Novak chipped in with 13 and
Hannah Lessen added 10.
Erin Thill led the squad in assists with 46.
Elmhurst faces Cornell College and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh tomorrow (September 29) on the tournament's second day.
