Four Straight Goals Lead Bluejays Past Concordia-Chicago

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - Four unanswered goals propelled the Elmhurst College men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Concordia University-Chicago at Langhorst Field.

Concordia (0-5) jumped on the scoreboard first, but the Bluejays scored just before halftime to even the match and then found the back of the net three times in the second half to pull away for the three-goal win.

Concordia's Michael Amezcua broke a scoreless tie in the 32nd minute when he collected a deflected ball and lined the ball into the back of the net. The Cougars led 1-0 until the closing seconds of the opening half. Alex Safford sent a pass past the Concordia defenders and Michael Delong raced in and scored the equalizer with just 10 seconds left in the half.

Kyle Smith collected the game-winning goal for the Bluejays in the 55th minute. Smith stripped the ball from a Concordia defender and raced in for a breakaway goal.

Austin Haas made it 3-1 for the Bluejays in the 73rd minute when he blasted home a 35-yard strike. Delong iced the game for the Bluejays in the 85th minute when he spun between a pair of Cougar defenders and beat Concordia keeper Jorge Guzman.

Elmhurst outshot Concordia 24-8 in the contest and had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

John Reglin earned the win in goal for the Bluejays, registering three saves in net. Guzman allowed four goals and stopped nine shots for the Cougars.

Elmhurst continues its five-game homestand on Friday (September 14) by hosting the University of Dubuque at 7:00 p.m.
