Men's Basketball Team Falls at Illinois Wesleyan

Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team closed out the 2011-12 season with a 79-60 loss at Illinois Wesleyan University. The Bluejays finished the season with a 12-13 overall record and a 6-8 record in league play.

Leading by two midway through the first half, Illinois Wesleyan (19-6, 10-4 CCIW) scored eight straight points to open up a 10-point advantage. The Titans led by as many as 15 points in the opening half and carried a 32-21 lead into the locker room at half time.

Elmhurst started strong in the second half, pulling to within five points after James Robertson splashed home a three-pointer. Illinois Wesleyan responded by outscoring Elmhurst 21-9 over the next 6:20 to take a 54-37 lead and take command of the contest. The Titans opened up a 21-point cushion and cruised to the 19-point victory.

Elmhurst struggled with its shooting, finishing the game hitting just 35.5 percent (22-of-62) of its shots. The Bluejays shot 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from downtown and 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from the foul line.

Illinois Wesleyan shot a whopping 58.8 percent (30-of-51) from the floor, including 65.4 percent (17-of-26) in the decisive second half. The Titans shot 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from three-point range and 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the charity stripe.

All five Elmhurst starters reached double figures in scoring. Robertson led the Bluejays' balanced scoring attack with 12 points, shooting 4-of-8 from downtown. D'Ante Foster, Jerome Robinson, Zack Boyd, and Nick Sanford scored 10 points apiece in the loss. Boyd collected a team-leading nine rebounds while Sanford pulled down six boards in the loss.

Illinois Wesleyan was led by Jordan Zimmer's 21 points. Zimmer shot 7-of-12 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Kevin Reed added 13 points and Andrew Ziemnik came off the bench to score 10 for the Titans.
