Men's Hoops Team Falls 67-59 at Albion

Box Score ALBION, Mich. - Second half struggles continued to plaque the Elmhurst men's basketball team as the Bluejays dropped a 67-59 contest at Albion College.

For the third consecutive game, the Bluejays started the opening half strong, building a nine-point lead on Nick Sanford's lay-up with 5:40 left on the clock. Albion (3-3) outscored the Bluejays 12-7 for the remainder of the slice Elmhurst's lead down to just four points (32-28) at the half.

Elmhurst (0-4) struggled at the start of the second half. The Bluejays went cold from the floor scoring only nine points for the first 11 minutes of the half. Albion capitalized on Elmhurst's strugles, building 54-43 lead with six minutes to play. Back-to-back three-pointers from Taylor Baxter and Bryant Ackerman pulled Elmhurst to within five points with just less than a minute left on the clock, but the Brittons hit all six of their free throws down the stretch to score the 67-59 victory. Albion outscore Elmhurst 42-30 in the second half.

Elmhurst shot 41.7 percent (20-of-48) from the floor, including 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from beyond the arc. Albion shot 40.4 percent (19-of-47) from the field and only 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from three-point range. Albion went to the free throw line 32 times in the contest and hit 25 attempts (78.1 percent). The Bluejays shot 12-of-18 from the charity stripe (66.7 percent).

Sanford led Elmhurst in the loss with 13 points while Baxter finished with 11. Ackerman came off the bench to score 10 for the Bluejays. Alex Morgunov finished with eight points for Elmhurst.

Albion was led by Zach Hurth's 15 points. Alex Harville added 14 points and Jordan Herron came off the bench to score 10. Mike Smith pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds while scoring seven points.

Elmhurst will look for its first win on Wednesday (December 5) when the Bluejays host Westminster College (Mo.) at R.A. Faganel Hall.
