Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst volleyball team secured its spot in the NCAA Tournament with a 25-8, 25-21, 25-17 win over Wheaton College in the CCIW Tournament Championship.
Elmhurst, ranked ninth in the latest AVCA national poll, improved to 29-7 with the win while Wheaton concluded its season at 13-23.
The Bluejays raced out of the gate in the opening set, building an 11-1 lead and running away with the first set 25-8.
The second set tightened up as the two teams were deadlocked at 18-18. The Bluejays ripped off three straight points to open up a 21-18 cushion. Wheaton pulled to within a point at 21-20, but Elmhurst closed the set with four straight points to open up a 2-0 cushion.
Elmhurst opened up a 13-9 advantage in the third set and slowly pulled away to down the Thunder 25-17 and take the match.
Megan Reynolds powered the Elmhurst offense with 11 kills and four blocks en route to being named the tournament's MVP. Antonéya Veasy Smith and
Sam Szarmach joined Reynolds on the all-tournament team after totaling eight kills apiece.
Marci Novak added eight kills while
Kaitlyn Wilks added sevn kills and two blocks.
Erin Thill finished with 20 assists while
Katie Rueffer finished with 15.
Hannah Lessen led the squad in digs with 15.
