Bluejays Drop Third Straight After Falling to Titans

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan scored a pair of second half goals to hand the Elmhurst College men's soccer team its third straight loss by a 2-1 final score.

Elmhurst (7-6, 0-2 CCIW) grabbed a lead early in the first half. Austin Haas sent a long pass downfield and MIkey Emig won a foot race to the loose ball. Emig raced past a Titan defender, and then faked a move to get past Titan keeper TIm Hegwood who had come out of the net to challenge the play. After getting around Hegwood, Emig tucked the ball into the net for his fifth goal of the season.

The Bluejays carried a 1-0 into the second half, but the TItans quickly scored the equalizer. After an Elmhurst foul, Danny Kenny sent a free kick into the box that Declan Geraghty headed home just 30 seconds into the second half.

The Titans' Tim Griffin scored the game-winner in the 68th minute. Griffin collected a deflected ball, worked his way around an Elmhurst defender, and beat Bluejay goalkeeper John Reglin to put the Titans on top.

Illinois Wesleyan (8-3, 3-0 CCIW) outshot Elmhurst 15-7 in the contest and had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Hegwood earned the win in net for the Titans, stopping three shots while allowing one. Reglin stopped four shots in goal for the Bluejays.

Elmhurst hosts Concordia College (Minn.) on Monday (October 8) afternoon.
