Emig Scores Twice to Lead Bluejays Past Augustana

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - Mikey Emig scored a pair of second half goals as the Elmhurst men's soccer team closed out the 2012 season with a 3-1 victory over Augustana College.

Elmhurst (9-10, 1-6 CCIW) jumped on the scoreboard just 1:10 into the match. Alex Wilkinson sent a cross through the box to an open Reggie Thedford and Thedford found the back of the net to stake Elmhurst to a 1-0 cushion.

The Bluejays carried the lead into the 43rd minute when Augustana (6-9-3, 2-4-1 CCIW) evened the score on a Cole Collins' goal. Collins collected a Nick Wolfe pass and blasted a shot off of Elmhurst keeper John Reglin into the net to even the score at one.

Emig took over in the second half, using his speed to score a pair of breakaway goals. In the 58h minute, Michael Delong sent a long pass down the near sideline. Emig sprinted past the Augustana defender and raced in for a one-on-one against Augustana keeper Brett Johnson. Emig beat Johnson to put Elmhurst back on top.

The Bluejays put the game away in the 81st minute. With Augustana on the attack, Andrew Moore collected a deflected ball and launched a long pass down the middle of the field. Emig raced past the Vikings' defenders and then tucked the ball past Johnson who had come out of the net to challenge the play.

Reglin recorded six saves in goal for the Bluejays to the earn the win, while Johnson stopped six shots for the Vikings.

Elmhurst outshot Augustana 16-14 in the contest.
