Brian McMahon broke a 2-2 tie with a goal in the 84th minute to lift the Elmhurst College men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Simpson College.
Simpson (1-1) jumped on the scoreboard in the 12th minute when Jeremy Reinert scored an unassisted goal. The Storm's lead was short lived as
Ken Miller connected on a 40-yard blast just 41 seconds later to tie the score at 1-1.
Elmhurst (1-1) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute when
Keith Thurman scored off of a corner kick from
Matt Sterner. Simpson evened the score with just 49 seconds to play in the half when Kyle Kusy fed Jeremy Reinert for a breakaway goal.
The first 35 minutes of the second half were scoreless, but McMahon netted the game-winning goal with just 6:59 left on the clock to give the Bluejays the win.
Elmhurst controlled the pace of the game, outshooting Simpson 20-7 in the contest.
Jake Hunstiger earned the victory in net for the Bluejays while Luke Aronow took the loss for Simpson. Aronow made seven saves in the loss.
Elmhurst plays its home-opener against Olivet College at Berens Park on Tuesday, September 6.
