NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team opened the CCIW season with a sweep of North Central College on Tuesday night, claiming their fifth consecutive victory in the process.
A competitive opening set saw the Bluejays eek out a 29-27 decision before coastign 25-12 i nthe second set and closing out the win with a 25-20 mark in the final frame.
Newly crowned CCIW Offensive Player of the Week
Megan Reynolds led Elmhurst with 11 kills and three blocks.
Kaitlyn Wilks and Antoneya Veasy-Smith also reached double figures with 10 kills apiece.
Perrie Morgan's 18 digs paced the defensive attack with
Marci Novak adding 11 and
Erin Thill 10. Thill became the lone Bluejay to post a double-double, also distributing 36 assists.
Sam Szarmach served up five aces in the fourth sweep of the season.
North Central (5-4, 0-1) was led by Jenae Harner's match high 12 kills.
Elmhurst (6-1, 1-0) heads to UW-Oshkosh this weekend to play four matches in their second consecutive visit to Oshkosh as part of the UW-Oshkosh Invite. Play begins at 3:30 p.m. on Friday against Wisconsin Lutheran.
