Volleyball Team Takes Two at UW-Platteville Tourney

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -
For the second time in two days, the Elmhurst College volleyball team has knocked off a team-ranked in the top-25 of the AVCA poll. The Bluejays dispatched 24th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville in three sets and also toppled Cornell College in four sets at the UW-Platteville Tournament.

Elmhurst, ranked 25th in the latest AVCA poll, ran its record to 17-4 overall with the pair of victories.

ELMHURST 3, CORNELL 1 -
Elmhurst opened the tournament with a 25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18 victory over Cornell College (15-5). Three Bluejays reached double figures in kills with Megan Reynolds leading the charge with 14. Reynolds also added a match-high five blocks for the Bluejays. Antonéya Veasy Smith chipped in with 13 kills while Sam Szarmach turned in an 11-kill, 15-dig performance.

Erin Thill led Elmhurst with 23 assists while Katie Rueffer chipped in 22 assists in the win. Perrie Morgan contributed a team-leading 20 digs. Marci Novak added 12 digs, three blocks, and three kills in the win.

Taylor Dicus and Kathleen O'Connor finished with 15 kills apiece to lead Cornell in the loss.

ELMHURST 3, UW-PLATTEVILLE 0 - The Bluejays closed the first night of the two-day tournament with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-16 victory over the 24th-ranked tournament hosts.

Szarmach powered the Bluejays' offense, smashing a match-high 14 kills and totaling a team-leading 15 digs. Kaitlyn Wilks added nine kills and three blocks while Veasy Smith chipped in with seven kills. Reynolds finished with six kills and three blocks for the Bluejays. Thill recorded a team-leading 34 assists in the victory.

Stephanie Kirchner led the Pioneers in the loss with 10 kills and 10 digs.

Elmhurst's schedule doesn't get any easier on day two of the tournament. The Bluejays open the day by facing CCIW rival and seventh-ranked Carthage College before closing out the tournament against Wartburg College.
