ELMHURST, Ill. -
Austin Haas headed home a corner kick to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Elmhurst men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Millikin University at Berens Park.
With the win, Elmhurst improved to 8-5-4 overall and 3-1-2 in CCIW play.
Elmhurst controlled the tempo of the game, outshooting Millikin (0-16-0) 25-3 in the contest, but the game was deadlocked at 1-1 after 71 minutes until McMahon's goal.
The Bluejays jumped on the scoreboard just 9:38 into the match. Millikin was whistled for a foul just outside the top of the box.
Matt Sterner bent the resulting free kick around the wall of defenders and into the back of the net to put Elmhurst on the scoreboard.
Elmhurst continued press ahead on offense, but the Bluejays were unable to open up a two-goal cushion. Millikin used a counter attack to score the equalizer in the 58th minute. Stuart Ball fed Kevin Price for an open shot and Price tucked the ball away to even the score at 1-1.
The score remained tied until the 72nd minute. Haas flicked home a corner kick from
Henrique Boscolo to put the Bluejays back on top for good.
John Reglin recorded two saves in net for the Bluejays while Sam Nesemann stopped 10 shots in goal for Millikin.
Elmhurst wraps up the regular season on Saturday (October 29) by traveling to Augustana College. A win by the Bluejays would clinch a spot in the spot in the CCIW Tournament.
