ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team improved to 23-4 on the season by blanking the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on the first day of the Elmhurst Invitational.
ELMHURST 3, UW-RIVER FALLS 0 - Elmhurst opened the tournament with a 25-14, 25-18, 25-22 win over UW-River Falls, recording its 22nd win in the process.
Megan Reynolds powered the Bluejays' offense, totaling 12 kills and two blocks while hitting .545.
Sam Szarmach turned in a nine-kill, eight-dig, two-block performance for the Bluejays.
Kaitlyn Wilks added seven kills and a pair of blocks.
Hannah Lessen led the squad in digs with 11 while
Erin Thill totaled a team-leading 34 assists.
ELMHURST 3, UW-PLATTEVILLE 0 - Elmhurst won its 10th consecutive match with a 25-17, 25-21, 25-19 victory over UW-Platteville.
Three Bluejays reached double figures in kills with Reynolds leading the way with 14. Wilks chipped in with 12 blocks while Szarmach added 10. Reynolds added a team-leading three blocks while Szarmach totaled 16 digs and an ace.
Perrie Morgan led the squad in digs (19) and aces (two). Thill finished with 32 assists and
Katie Rueffer added 11.
Elmhurst, ranked 19th in the latest AVCA poll faces Simpson College and 16th-ranked University of Chicago on the tournament's second day.
