Griggs' Goal Lifts Elmhurst to Win Over North Central

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -
David Griggs with just 3:02 remaining to lift the Elmhurst College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over North Central College.

Elmhurst (5-4-4 overall) picked up its first CCIW win with the victory, improving to 1-0-2 in league play.

Elmhurst struck first, jumping on the scoreboard in the 26th minute on Matt Sterner's goal. Brett Harper sent a cross through the box and Sterner was there to put the ball in the back of the net and give Elmhurst a 1-0 lead.

North Central (9-3-1, 1-1-1 CCIW) answered back less than six minutes later. Ryan Carroll scored the equalizer for the Cardinals off of an assist from T.J. Simmons in the 32nd minute.

The game remained tied until the 87th minute when Griggs knocked home a lose ball in a scramble in front of the net.

North Central outshot Elmhurst 17-12 overall, including an 11-5 edge in the second half. Elmhurst had a 9-6 edge in corner kicks.

John Reglin picked up the victory for the Bluejays in goal. Reglin allowed only one goal while recording five saves. Phillip Klipp took the loss for the Cardinals, surrendering two goals while recording seven saves.

Elmhurst travels to Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 15.
