WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team, ranked 21st in the latest AVCA poll, won its seventh consecutive match by upending Wheaton College in three sets.
Elmhurst (20-4 overall) toppled Wheaton (12-9, 2-3 CCIW) 25-18, 25-19, 25-20 and improved to 3-2 in CCIW play with the victory.
The Bluejays dominated both the first and second sets. Elmhurst led by as many as eight points in the opening set before Wheaton used a run to close to within three points at 18-15, but the Bluejays won seven of the next 10 points to take the opening set.
The Bluejays continued their strong play in the second set, opening up a seven-point advantage and cruising to the six-point win.
Wheaton battled with the Bluejays for much of the third set as the two teams were even at 12-12. Elmhurst slowly pulled away taking the set 25-20 to secure the match.
Megan Reynolds powered the Bluejays in the middle, totaling a team-leading 16 kills and five blocks.
Antonéya Veasy Smith reached double figures in kills with 10. Veasy Smith also recorded two blocks.
Erin Thill totaled a team-leading 41 assists and served up a pair of aces for the Bluejays.
Perrie Morgan led the Bluejays in digs with 12 while adding a pair of digs.
Sam Szarmach turned in a nine-kill, six-dig performance for the Bluejays.
Elmhurst hosts North Park University next Tuesday (October 18).
