ELMHURST, Ill. - Elmhurst College forward Matt Sterner has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's (CCIW) Offensive Player of the Week in men's soccer.
Sterner, a junior forward, helped Elmhurst to a 2-1 record and totaling eight points in the process. Sterner had a hand in all four of Elmhurst's goals in the team's 4-1 win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Friday (September 3) at Wheaton College's Bob Baptista Invitational. He found the back of the net twice and assisted on the Bluejays' other two tallies. On Tuesday (September 7), Sterner scored his team-leading third goal of the season in Elmhurst's 6-0 win over Monmouth College.
Sterner led the Bluejays in goals scored in 2009 (seven) while earning second-team all-conference honors.
After winning its first-ever CCIW title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in 2009, the Bluejays are off to a 2-1 start to the 2010 season. Elmhurst travels to the Elizabethtown College Tournament on September 9-10.
