The Elmhurst University men's soccer team turned in a strong defensive effort and created several scoring chances but came up just short in a 1-0 loss to Carroll University on Tuesday night at Langhorst Field.
The Bluejays (4-9-2, 1-4-0 CCIW) controlled much of the possession in the second half, dictating tempo and putting together sustained attacking stretches. Freshmen Klaus Gartner and Charlie Terriquez led the offensive push with multiple shots each, while Aiden Gjorgjievski and Max Aquino both tested the Carroll goalkeeper with efforts on frame. Elmhurst finished the night with eight total shots, including six on goal, and earned three corner kicks—all coming in the second half during a strong offensive surge.
Defensively, the Bluejays were organized and disciplined, holding Carroll's attack in check for nearly 80 minutes. Goalkeeper Niyen Ruffin anchored the back line with four saves, including two key stops in each half. Veterans Victor Lewicki and Fernando Delgado, alongside Loretto Lopez, provided stability in front of him, limiting Carroll's chances and clearing multiple dangerous balls from the box.
Despite Elmhurst's control in the second half, Carroll managed to capitalize on a late opportunity in the final moments to edge ahead 1-0. The Bluejays continued to press in the closing minutes, but their final shots were turned away.
The Bluejays will look to build on their strong stretches of play and convert their offensive pressure into results as they continue CCIW action this weekend.
