ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's tennis team kicked off its 2010 season by splitting a pair of matches at Augustana College. The Bluejays upended Loras College 6-3 to open the season before being blanked 9-0 by Augustana College.

ELMHURST 6, LORAS 3 - Elmhurst started its 2010 season by doubling up Loras College 6-3. The Bluejays won four of the six singles matches and scored a pair of victories in doubles play.

Loras (0-5) scored wins at No.1 and No 2. singles to open play. Ale Rulaes edged Elmhurst's Virginia Dallman 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 1 singles, while the DuHawks' Clare Tuchscherer defeated Elmhurst's Stephanie Ruff 7-5, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Elmhurst's Rebecca Davis downed Sarah Dickhut 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, the Bluejays' Alex Stark shut out Rebecca Weglarz 6-0, 6-0. Elmhurst's Alexis Ross downed Carly Villano 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles while Emily Tarlini earned a 2-6, 7-6, 10-3 victory over Loras' Rachel Weglarz at No. 6 singles.

In doubles action, Dallman and Ruff teamed to defeat Tuchscherer and Ruales 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Rachel Weglarz and Dickhut scored Loras a win No. 2 doubles by downing Stark and Davis 8-6. Ross and Tarlini added an 8-4 win over Rebecca Weglarz and Villano at No. 3 doubles.

AUGUSTANA 9, ELMHURST 0 - The Bluejays dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in league play following a 9-0 shutout loss to Augustana. The Vikings swept all six singles and all three doubles contests en route to the win.

Shannon McNamara scored a win over Dallman at No. 1 singles after Dallman retired. Kim Sawyer followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ruff at No. 2 singles while Samantha Tonn gave Augustana a point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Davis at No. 3 singles. Tricia Sapio downed Stark 6-0, 2-6, 10-5 in three sets while Krista Panko defeated Ross 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. The Vikings' Sheri Hendricks knocked off Tarlini 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

McNamara and Sawyer combined to defeat Dallman and Ruff 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. The duo of Sapio and Tonn blanked Davis and Stark 8-0 at No. 2 doubles while Panko and Brittany Reece defeated Ross and Tarlini 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
