Sterner's Goal Propels the Bluejays to Win Over Chicago

ELMHURST, Ill.
- Matt Sterner broke a scoreless tie in the 85th minute to propel the Elmhurst College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Chicago.

Brian Chrencik hit Sterner with a pass through the Chicago defense and Sterner beat Chicago goalkeeper Chris Giusto to score the game's only goal.

The two teams played a scoreless first half with Elmhurst holding a slight 5-4 edge in shots.

Elmhurst (6-4) peppered Chicago (6-3) early in the second half. A header attempt from Sterner tipped off the cross bar just 45 seconds into the half. Later in the second half, Giusto made a leaping save of a Sterner bicycle kick to keep the game scoreless.

The Bluejays finished the game outshooting the Maroons 15-8, including a 10-4 edge in the second half.

Sebastian Domczewski earned the shutout in goal for the Bluejays, stopping all three shots he faced. Giusto recorded seven saves in net for the Maroons.

Elmhurst travels to North Park on Friday, October 1.
