Bluejay Soccer Team Falls 4-3 to Carthage

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team dropped to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in CCIW play after falling to Carthage College 4-3 at Langhorst Field.

Carthage (5-4-1, 1-0 CCIW) did all of its damage in the opening half, scoring four times and building a two-goal advantage at halftime. The scoring came fast-and-furious as the teams combined for five goals in a 10-minute span.

Carthage's Aleks Urosevic recorded the first tally for the Red Men. Urosevic grabbed a deflected ball and scored in a one-on-one situation against Elmhurst keeper Sebastian Domczewski

Elmhurst quickly tied the game, scoring less than a minute later when Keith Thurman got past the Carthage defense and slid a pass to Brian McMahon. McMahon tipped the pass over to Jon Brehm, who found the back of the net to even the score.

Less than 45 seconds later Carthage was back on top when Jordan Baker headed home a free kick from Tyler Peterson. The Red Men opened up a two-goal in the 14th minute when Danny Diaz scored off of a Tyler Cortes assist. 

Elmhurst closed to within a goal in the 16th minute. Matt Sterner was taken down in the box setting up a penalty kick for the Bluejays. Randy Warren's penalty kick was saved by Carthage keeper Aaron Dirck, but Warren pounced on the rebound and scored to draw Elmhurst to within a goal.

Carthage reclaimed the two-goal lead in the 30th minute when Jordan Innis redirected a free kick from Peterson, giving the Red Men a 4-2 lead.

Brehm pulled Elmhurst to within a goal in the 72nd minute when he scored off of a rebound from a McMahon header. 

The Bluejays had a scoring chance in the 79th minute, but Austin Haas' shot tipped off the goal post. 

Elmhurst outshot Carthage 18-14 and had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

Domczewski recorded five saves in goal for the Bluejays.
