DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team's 2010 season came to a close with a hard-fought three-set loss to ninth-ranked Carthage College in the semifinals of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament.
Carthage (29-7) scored a 27-25, 31-29, 25-18 win over Elmhurst to advance to the CCIW Tournament finals.
Megan Reynolds led the Bluejays in the loss by totaling 10 kills and a match-high seven blocks.
Melissa Miehlke and
Antonéya Veasy Smith totaled seven kills apiece for the Bluejays. Miehlke added 12 digs for while Veasy Smith tallied three blocks.
Hannah Lessen finished the match with six kills and 21 digs.
Perrie Morgan recorded a match-high 25 digs.
Erin Thill finished with a team-leading 16 assists while
Katie Rueffer recorded 15.
Carthage was led by Michelle Madeja's 14-kill, 18-dig performance. Lauren Dembkowski added 10 kills and 13 digs for the Lady Reds. Cindy Cavanagh added nine kills while Drewann Pancratz set up 40 kills for Carthage. Jordan Burkholder added four blocks for the Lady Reds.
Elmhurst finished the season with a 24-13 overall record and 5-2 mark in CCIW play. It marked the Bluejays' best season since the 2005 squad posted a 31-10 mark and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
