ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team won its fourth consecutive match by downing Wheaton College 25-17, 25-18, 28-26.
The Bluejays improved to 17-9 overall and 4-2 in the CCIW. With the conference win, the Bluejays clinched home court advantage in a CCIW Tournament Play-In match on November 2.
Elmhurst broke open the first and second sets with long runs to put away the Thunder. Wheaton (12-14, 2-4 CCIW) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set and battled back-and-forth with Elmhurst the whole way. The Bluejays opened up a 21-20 lead in the third, but four straight points from Wheaton gave the Thunder three set points. The Bluejays fought off all three set points from the Thunder and put the match away on their third match point.
Janelle Thompson led Elmhurst's offense with 12 kills while playing on senior night at R.A. Faganel Hall.
Kaitlyn Wilks finished with 10 kills and a pair of blocks.
Hannah Lessen chipped in with eight kills and 10 digs while
Megan Reynolds totaled eight kills and two blocks.
Katie Rueffer finished with a team-leading 20 assists and added seven digs while
Erin Thill recorded 16 assists and six digs.
Perrie Morgan finished with a team-leading 15 digs in the victory.
The Bluejays host the Elmhurst College Invitational on October 23-24.
