ELMHURST, Ill. - Matt Sterner found the back of the net twice to lift the Elmhurst College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Greenville College.
Randy Warren fed a pass through the Greenville (11-4-1) defense to an open Sterner just 3:36 into the game. Sterner blasted the ball past Panthers' keeper Nathan Haas to give Elmhurst a 1-0 lead.
After a late foul at the top of the box, Sterner put the game out of reach when he bent a free kick into the net to give Elmhurst (8-8-0) a 2-0 advantage.
Elmhurst outshot Greenville 21-10 in the game and had a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.
Sebastian Domczewski earned the shutout in goal or the Bluejays by registering seven saves. Haas took the loss for Greenville, allowing two goals and recording eight saves.
Elmhurst resumes CCIW play on October 27 by traveling to Millikin University.
