ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team dropped to 7-8 overall and 1-4 in CCIW play following a 3-2 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University at Langhorst Field.
Elmhurst got on the scoreboard just five minutes into the game when
Jon Brehm slid a pass to an open
Brian McMahon from 15 yards in front of the goal. McMahon fired the ball past Titans' goalie Frank Gorg to stake the Bluejays to a 1-0 lead.
Illinois Wesleyan (6-5-2, 2-0-1 CCIW) evened the match in the 28th minute when Tim Griffin connected on a breakaway goal.
Kyle Gorgol broke the 1-1 tie in the 65th minute when he scored an unassisted goal to put the Titans on top 2-1. The Titans' lead was short lived as Brehm evened the match just 3:15 later when he scored on a
Luke Froehlich assist. Gorgol scored the game-winner for the Titans in the 74th minute when he scored off of assists from Griffin and Marlow.
Elmhurst outshot Illinois Wesleyan 17-8 in the contest and had an 11-4 advantage on corner kicks.
Sebastian Domczewski recorded two saves in goal for the Bluejays while Gorg stopped five shots for the Titans.
With the loss, the Bluejays' chances of qualifying for the CCIW Tournament suffered a serious blow. In addition to needing victories in its final two conference games against Millikin and Augustana, Elmhurst will need some additional from the rest of the conference as well to qualify in the top half of the league standings.
The Bluejays host Greenville College at Berens Park on Monday, October 18, at 4:00 p.m.
