NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team slipped to 2-2 in CCIW play after dropping a 25-12, 18-25, 21-25, 23-25 decision to North Central College.

Elmhurst (7-9 overall) got off to a great start, pounding North Central (18-1, 2-2 CCIW) 25-12 in the first set after racing out to a 7-0 lead.

North Central evened the match by taking the second set 25-18 and then took the third set 25-21. In the fourth set, the score was knotted at 16-16 and the two teams continually traded points. With the set even at 22, Elmhurst grabbed a one-point lead on a North Central error. The Cardinals then used a pair of errors by the Bluejays to take a 24-23 lead. North Central won the match on a service ace.

Antonéya Veasy Smith led Elmhurst in the loss with 14 kills. Caitlin O'Hara added 13 kills while Meghan Mullaney finished with 11. Lisa Burger chipped in with 10 kills and five blocks whilePaige Fombelle recorded seven blocks and six kills. Lindy Melville led the team in assist with 26 while Katie Buechelfinished with 17 digs. Erin Thill added 23 assists and 11 digs in the loss.

Elmhurst plays at Lake Forest College on Thursday, October 1.
