ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team dropped to 3-4 overall following a 77-60 loss to fifth-ranked Washington University.
The Bluejays kept the game tight for the opening 17 minutes, but Washington (5-1) used a 14-5 run over 4:30 to open up a 36-25 lead with 1:32 left in the half. Elmhurst closed on a 4-0 to pull to within seven points (36-29) at halftime.
The Bears outscored the Bluejays 34-14 over the first 15:30 of the second half to open up a commanding 70-43 lead. Washington went on to cruise to the 77-60 victory.
Washington shot a whopping 58.8 percent (30-of-51) from the floor while Elmhurst was limited to 40.0 percent (20-of-50). The Bears outscored Elmhurst 42-14 in the paint. The Bears also enjoyed a 32-20 rebounding advantage.
Lyndsie Long scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Bluejays in the loss.
Rashida Joiner added 12 points while
Megan Ney scored eight.
Washington had five players reach double figures in scoring. Kathryn Berger came off the bench to lead the squad in scoring with 15. Kelsey Robb added 14 points and seven rebounds while Alex Hoover, Janice Evans, and Zoe Unruh all scored 11.
Elmhurst travels to Nebraska Wesleyan University on Wednesday, December 9.
