ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team blanked Augustana College 2-0 to advance to the CCIW Tournament Finals for the second time in three seasons.
Elmhurst (13-3-3), wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as the Bluejays struck for a goal just 1:33 into the match.
Jon Brehm chipped the ball over the Augustana defense to
Matt Sterner on the outside. Sterner drew Augustana keeper Mike Dolan out of the net and then found
Brian McMahon open in front of the net for an easy goal.
The Bluejays put the game out of reach in the 63rd minute when
Luke Froehlich collected a pass from Sterner and beat Dolan, giving Elmhurst a 2-0 lead.
The Bluejays outshot Augustana (6-10-3) 19-12 in the contest and had a 14-2 edge in corner kicks.
Sebastian Domczewskirecorded seven saves in net to preserve the shut out.
Elmhurst ,ranked 23rd in the latest NSCAA poll, will host Wheaton College on Saturday, November 7, at Berens Park. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The winner of the tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
