Volleyball Team Splits Pair at Washington

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team upped its record to 10-10 overall after splitting a pair of matches at the Washington University (Mo.) Invitational.

Elmhurst began the tournament by suffering a 16-25, 17-25, 25-23, 19-25 loss to the fifth-ranked tournament host, Washington (Mo.). The Bluejays bounced back from the loss by hammering the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 25-17, 25-16, 25-17.

WASHINGTON 3, ELMHURST 1 - The Bluejays fell behind 2-0 before rallying to take the third set 25-23. Washington held off the Bluejays in the fourth set to score the 3-1 victory. Elmhurst was led by Caitlin O'Hara's 11 kills. Antonéya Veasy Smith added 10 kills in the loss. Lindy Melville finished with a team-leading 31 assists while Katie Buechel totaled 23 digs in the loss.

ELMHURST 3, UW-LA CROSSE 0 - Elmhurst rebounded from the four-set loss to Washington by dispatching UW-La Crosse 25-17, 25-16, 25-17. Veasy Smith and Paige Fombelle pounded down seven kills apiece to pace the Bluejays in the win. Janelle Thompson added six kills while Erin Thill totaled 19 assists. Alexa Kiess finished with 11 assists in the victory.
