ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team ran its CCIW record to 2-0 after edging Illinois Wesleyan University 1-0.
Jake Pahr scored the game's lone goal in the 22nd minute to lift Elmhurst to the victory. After Illinois Wesleyan (3-5-2, 0-1-0 CCIW) was whistled for a foul from 35 yards out, the Bluejays used a quick restart on the free kick to set up the goal. Randy Warren sent a pass between a pair of defenders as Pahr broke into the box for the goal.
Elmhurst (7-3-1 overall) had to make the one goal stand up as the Bluejays were forced to play a man down for almost 45 minutes after a red card late in the first half.
Despite playing shorthanded in the second half, the Bluejays still managed to keep pressure on the Titans. Illinois Wesleyan outshot Elmhurst 5-4 in the second half, but the Bluejays had a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Elmhurst turned away nine second half corner kicks for the Titans to preserve the shutout. A red card on the Titans late in the second half had both teams playing with only 10 players for the final three minutes.
Sebastian Domczewski stopped all six shots he faced while preserving the shutout win for the Bluejays. Titans' goalkeeper Win Fischer stopped five shots while taking the loss in net.
Elmhurst travels to North Central College on Tuesday, October 6.
