Bluejay Volleyball Team Falls to Sixth-Ranked UW-Whitewater

ELMHURST, Ill. -
The Elmhurst College volleyball team saw its record dip to 16-16 overall after suffering a 13-25, 25-16, 20-25, 24-26 loss to sixth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Whitewater (26-5 overall) raced out to a quick 1-0 lead by taking the first set 25-13. The Bluejays evened the match at a set apiece by hammering the Warhawks 25-16 in the second set. The third set was tied at 14-all before UW-Whitewater won 11 of the last 17 points to take the set 25-20.  The Warhawks opened up a 21-17 lead late in the fourth set, but the Bluejays rattled off five straight points to grab a 22-21 lead. UW-Whitewater scored the next three points to set up match point at 24-21, but the Bluejays rattled off three straight points to tie the set at 24-24. The Warhawks were able to score the next two points to take the set and win the match.

Caitlin O'Hara led Elmhurst in the loss with nine kills and eight blocks. Janelle Thompson and Melissa Miehlke added seven kills apiece while Katie Buechel finished with a team-leading 19 digs. Erin Thill led the squad in assists with 18 while Lindy Melville totaled 16.

Elmhurst has secured home court advantage in a CCIW Tournament play-in match next Tuesday (November 3) at 7:00 p.m. The fourth-seeded Bluejays will host fifth-seed Wheaton College.
