ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team closed out the regular season portion of its schedule by defeating St. Norbert College 4-2 at Berens Park.
All six goals came in the first half with the final four goals of the second half coming in the fast-paced final nine minutes.
Elmhurst (12-3-3) struck first in the 12th minute when Keith Thurman connected off a cross from Ken Miller. St. Norbert (11-5-0) evened the scored in the 24th minute when Ben Vanden Avond converted a penalty kick.
The Bluejays reclaimed the lead when Jon Brehm stole the ball from St. Norbert and beat goalkeeper Joe Schwartz to give Elmhurst a 2-1 advantage. Donny Baloun evened the score at two when he netted a goal in the 41st minute.
Elmhurst closed the half with a flurry, with a pair of goals in the final 3:30 minutes. David Griggs scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Thurman at 41:37 to put the Bluejays back on top. Brehm netted his second goal of the contest with just 13 seconds left to play in the half to give Elmhurst a two-goal lead.
Sebastian Domczewski recorded six saves in net to notch the win in goal for the Bluejays. Schwartz finished with four saves in goal for St. Norbert.
Elmhurst hosts a CCIW Tournament semifinal match on Wednesday, November 4.
