KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team remained undefeated in CCIW competition by scoring a 4-2 road victory at Carthage College.
With the victory, the Bluejays improved to 10-3-2 overall and 5-0-1 in league play. Elmhurst has secured a spot in the CCIW Tournament and can clinch its first CCIW Championship with a win over Wheaton College on Friday (October 23).
Carthage (3-7-4 overall, 2-3-0 in CCIW games) got on the scoreboard first when Aleks Urosevic scored an unassisted goal in the 13th minute.
The Red Men's lead was short lived as
Luke Froehlich evened the score with a goal from a
Matt Sterner feed in the 18th minute. The Bluejays grabbed the lead in the 38th minute when
Brian McMahon found the back of the net off a Sterner assist.
Carthage evened the score just 15 seconds before the half when Urosevic scored his second goal of the game from a Tyler Cortez feed.
Elmhurst struck twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach. Keith Thurman connected on a goal from a Randy Warren pass eight minutes into the second half. Jon Brehm tacked on an unassisted goal two minutes later to give the Bluejays the 4-2 victory.
Sebastian Domczewski recorded four saves and allowed just two goals while recording the win in goal for the Bluejays. Taao Scarnato took the loss in net for the Red Men while stopping five shots and surrendering four goals.
Elmhurst travels to Lake Forest College on Wednesday, October 21. Elmhurst hosts Wheaton College at Berens Park on Friday, October 23, at 7:00 p.m.
