ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College Volleyball team moved to 12-13 overall after splitting a pair of matches at the Elmhurst Invitational.

The Bluejays began the tournament with a 3-0 win over Loras College, before falling 3-1 in the nightcap to 11th-ranked Calvin College.

ELMHURST 3, LORAS 0 - Elmhurst kicked off the tournament with a 25-21, 30-28, 25-18 win over Loras College.

Caitlin O'Hara and Antonéya Veasy Smith led Elmhurst in the victory. O'Hara hit .423 with a team-leading 12 kills and seven blocks while Veasy Smith racked up 11 kills while hitting .435. Meghan Mullaney added eight kills in the victory while Lisa Burger totaled six kills, six blocks, and three aces. Katie Buechel tallied a team-leading 25 digs while Lindy Melville led the squad in assists with 22. Erin Thill contributed 14 digs while Paige Fombelle recorded seven blocks.

CALVIN 3, ELMHURST 1 - The Bluejays slipped to 12-13 following a 17-25, 20-25, 25-10, 19-25 defeat to 11th-ranked Calvin College.

After dropping the first two sets, the Bluejays raced out to a 12-3 lead in the third set after Thill served nine consecutive points. The Bluejays pulled away to take the set 25-10.

Calvin opened up an early lead in the fourth and final set. Elmhurst pulled to within three points at 19-16, but a service error on the Bluejays gave Calvin a four-point lead. The Kinghts scored a 25-19 victory in the set to take the match.

O'Hara recorded a team-leading 14 kills and six blocks to pace the Bluejays in the loss. Veasy Smith added 10 kills while Burger tallied seven. Melville recorded 17 assists while Thill totaled 16. Buechel led the squad in digs, finishing with 14.

Elmhurst faces Greensboro College and Simpson College on the the tournament's second day (October 17).
