ELMHURST, Ill. - The 16th-ranked Elmhurst College men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to the University of Chicago 2-1 in overtime.
Elmhurst (7-1-0) trailed 1-0 at the half, but evened the score to send the game to overtime. Chicago's Joe Farias-Eisner controlled a deflected ball and netted the game winner in the 97th minute.
Chicago got on the scoreboard in the 5th minute when Kenzo Manners fired home a blast from 30 yards out. The Bluejays evened the game in the 53rd minute when Brandon Violette (Sarasota, Fla./H.S.) headed home a free kick from Jon Brehm (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson).
The two teams traded shots for the remainder of the second half. Elmhurst goalkeeper Sebastian Domczewski (Des Plaines/St. Viator) kept the game tied at 1-1 when he stopped a Chicago penalty kick in the 60th minute. The Bluejays had a chance in the closing seconds, as a take down by Chicago gave Elmhurst a direct kick just outside the goal box. Elmhurst sailed the free kick over the net and the game went to overtime.
Elmhurst outshot Chicago 19-12, and had each team had four corner kicks.
Domczewski finished with four saves while Chicago keeper Chris Giusto recorded seven.
Elmhurst travels to Wilmington College on Friday, September 26.
